✅ X-2 Implementation Complete

Summary

Successfully implemented X-2 — noema-agent v2 Minimal API, a stateless execution layer following the Noesis Noema architecture principles.

Deliverables

1. Core Application Files

app/main.py — FastAPI application with 3 endpoints:

  • GET / — Service information
  • GET /health — Health check
  • POST /invoke — Invocation Boundary

app/models.py — Pydantic data models:

  • InvocationRequest — Request with session_id, task_type, payload
  • InvocationResponse — Response with session_id, status, result, error

app/executor.py — Pure execution logic:

  • execute_task() — Deterministic task executor
  • Supports "echo" task type
  • Returns "unsupported_task" error for unknown types

app/__init__.py — Package initialization

2. Configuration & Dependencies

requirements.txt — Python dependencies:

  • fastapi>=0.115.0
  • uvicorn[standard]>=0.32.0
  • pydantic>=2.10.3

.gitignore — Updated with server logs

3. Testing & Documentation

test_api.py — Automated test suite:

  • 4/4 tests passing
  • Tests all endpoints and both success/error cases

README.md — Complete user guide:

  • Quick start with virtual environment setup
  • API reference with examples
  • Project structure overview

docs/x2-implementation.md — Implementation details:

  • Architecture compliance checklist
  • Component descriptions
  • Design principles
  • Future extension points

Test Results

Testing noema-agent X-2 Minimal API
============================================================

✅ Root endpoint PASSED
✅ Health check PASSED
✅ Echo task (success) PASSED
✅ Unsupported task (error) PASSED

============================================================
Results: 4/4 tests passed
============================================================

Architecture Compliance

Stateless execution — No state between requests
No decision-making — Pure execution only
No routing logic — No backend selection
No persistence — No database or storage
Invocation Boundary — Clean request/response interface
Constrained tasks — Only predefined task types
Structured JSON — Consistent response format

Running the Service

# Create conda environment
conda create -n noema-agent python=3.14.3 -y
conda activate noema-agent

# Install dependencies
pip install -r requirements.txt

# Start server
uvicorn app.main:app --reload --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8000

# Run tests (in another terminal)
conda activate noema-agent
pip install requests
python test_api.py

Example Usage

# Echo task
curl -X POST http://localhost:8000/invoke \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "session_id": "demo-001",
    "task_type": "echo",
    "payload": {"message": "Hello, Noema!"}
  }'

# Response:
{
  "session_id": "demo-001",
  "status": "success",
  "result": {"message": "Hello, Noema!"},
  "error": null
}

Code Quality

  • ✅ Clean, maintainable code
  • ✅ Type hints throughout
  • ✅ Comprehensive docstrings
  • ✅ SOLID principles followed
  • ✅ No clever shortcuts
  • ✅ Explicit error handling
  • ✅ Self-documenting code

Environment

  • Python 3.14.3 (conda environment recommended)
  • FastAPI (latest)
  • macOS ARM64 (tested)
  • No Docker required (yet)

Next Steps

This minimal execution layer is ready for:

  1. Integration with orchestration layer
  2. Extension with additional task types
  3. Deployment to VPC or cloud
  4. Observability additions (logging, metrics)
  5. Authentication when needed
