<p>The Issue is the precise legal question the court (or you, as the analyst) must answer. A well-stated issue is:</p>

<li><strong>Specific:</strong> Not "Was there a breach?" but "Did Defendant breach the implied warranty of merchantability under UCC §2-314 when the machine failed within 30 days of purchase?"</li>
<li><strong>Framed as a question:</strong> Always a yes/no or whether question</li>

<h2 id="firac">FIRAC vs IRAC vs CREAC — Which to Use?</h2>
<p>Three major frameworks are used in legal education, and different law schools and professors prefer different approaches:</p>

<h2 id="examples">Complete IRAC Example — Contract Law</h2>
<div class="kbox"><span class="lbl">Scenario</span>On January 1, 2024, Davis offered to sell her car to Miller for $15,000, stating the offer would remain open until January 15. On January 10, Davis sold the car to Chen. On January 12, Miller sent a signed letter accepting the offer. Has a valid contract been formed between Davis and Miller?</div>
<div class="kbox"><span class="lbl">ISSUE</span>Whether a valid contract was formed between Davis and Miller when Miller accepted Davis's offer on January 12 after Davis had already sold the car to Chen on January 10, thereby arguably revoking the original offer.</div>
<div class="kbox"><span class="lbl">RULE</span>A valid contract requires offer, acceptance, consideration, and mutual assent. An offeror may revoke an offer at any time before acceptance, even if the offeror promised to keep the offer open — unless the offer is supported by consideration (an option contract). Restatement (Second) of Contracts §§ 25, 36, 42 (1981). Revocation is effective when communicated to the offeree. Id. § 42.</div>

If Miller was unaware of the sale, the revocation would not be effective, and Miller's January 12 acceptance would appear valid.
