Is it possible to update the map logo on the World At War Map? It is the only thing that looks bad.

Normally, changes to maps are done by the owner, its designated successor or with the owner's consent or by someone high up enough in TripleA to do that anyway. This last figure used to be @ron-murhammer for World At War, so I guess we need either him coming back or someone else actively taking over the authority to review and push changes to the map like @ron-murhammer used to do. Missing that, I'm afraid you are sending mails to an address which no longer exists...

Personally, I would eliminate the "NWO" part in the logo. That stands for "New World Order" (and I even wonder if the majority of users by now will be even able to guess that), and I assume was made because, when World At War was presented to the community, New World Order was very popular, so I suppose this was "marketed" as the global version of New World Order. However, the map itself is called just "World At War", not "New World Order: World At War" or anything having the "New World Order" name in it, and I'm fairly certain that "World At War" is by now much more popular than "New World Order" both in lobby and in forum.

It would be much better if you also post a screenshot of the proposals as part of the map because it is not just a matter of how good the logo looks but how it matches the rest of the map around it, or else I don't think it is really possible to have a good idea if it is going to be better of what "we" have.

Eliminating NWO makes sense, I assumed it stood for that and then assumed the author had worked on that map as well. Does anyone know what happened to Steig?

I would argue that it does not look that bad to me or that there is worse. In particular, I would say that the "infrantry" unit looks bad. However, that needs to be something which looks acceptable for every power, so I guess maybe it is just not possible to have a very good looking "infantry" unit which is also good as a generic unit being the same for everyone.

It can be done but it would be a lot of work since improving those icons would mean you would need to improve the rest.

Also, how about the "world_at_war.gif" in the notes? Have you considered that? That one has the image of the map as it is. If the logo or whatever other part of the map is changed, either the "world_at_war.gif" is made anew or won't any longer show the map as it is. (Arguably, this is not a big deal I guess, especially if the new logo is very similar to the old one.)

Logo #_1 pops the most for me. Though, two concerns:

Concern 1 - iconography

• no iron crosses
• generally nothing that even hints at actual nazi iconography

Concern 2 - cohesion

the rest of the game notes is very basic HTML, flat images and tables. I wonder how well the game notes would still feel cohesive overall. Not to say it has to stay the same, but it might seem even more jarring to have some really nice graphics and then way less nice graphics of a very different style.

Your opposite problem is actually where we might agree. The removal of swastikas is often a way to smuggle in Nazi iconography. Because of this, any and all Nazi and Axis iconography - even a stripped-down version like a swastika-less iron cross - is not allowed, even in a historically accurate context such as a WWI map.

Historical accuracy can be respected in some contexts. For example, a reasonably accurate US Civil War map can have Confederate battle flags. That was the flag that armies actually marched under. Often people use the Nazi flag as the flag for the Wehrmacht, which is not even historically accurate. Even with the historical accuracy in mind, the Nazi and Axis iconography is a specific exception and anything resembling it in any context (political or military, historically accurate or not) is against policy.

I see, it's an improvement to remove then and appreciated! Though, which map exactly are we speaking of? World at war, the classic one, or one of the variants maybe? I'm not sure which image is the original
