THE WAZE COMMUNITY SOURCE LICENSE

A NOTE ON COLLABORATION & LICENSING
I poured a massive amount of time, research, and unique logic into this
software to help the Waze editing community. I actively welcome and encourage
contributions, feature requests, and community support!

- Want to add a feature? Please submit a Pull Request! I'd love to merge your
great ideas into the main script so everyone benefits.
- Want to build an extension? Go for it, but please consider contributing your
  hooks upstream.
- Want to clone this, change the UI colors, and release it as your own?
  Please don't.

By using, modifying, or distributing this software, you agree to the following
terms.

1. DEFINITIONS
"Original Software" refers to the source code, logic, design, and file
structures authored by the Original Author, regardless of the platform or
channel from which it was acquired, in whole or in part, including specific
algorithms and logic routines.

"Original Author" refers to David Slutsky (known as r0den within the Waze
community).

"Modification" refers to any alteration, addition, deletion, or partial
extraction applied to the Original Software.

"Significant Change" refers to the addition of substantial, novel,
human-authored logic, features, or bug fixes that directly impact the core
Waze Map Editor functionality. Cosmetic alterations (e.g., UI color changes,
renaming variables, code refactoring), bundling the Original Software with
third-party code, or adding supplementary non-functional features (e.g.,
telemetry, logging, visual themes) do not constitute a Significant Change.

"Extension" refers to a separate script or program that relies on, but does
not duplicate the core logic of, the Original Software, provided that it does
not obscure, suppress, or maliciously intercept the user interface, core
functionality, or attribution elements of the Original Software.

2. PERMISSIONS GRANTED
You are granted the non-exclusive, free-of-charge right to:
2.1. Use: Download, install, and execute the Original Software for the
explicit purpose of editing and improving the Waze map.
2.2. Modify: Alter the code for your own private, non-distributed use.
2.3. Fork: Create and maintain a public or private fork of the repository
utilizing standard platform features (e.g., GitHub's Fork button) in
compliance with the host platform's Terms of Service.

3. RESTRICTIONS ON USE & MONETIZATION
The following restrictions apply universally to all users of the Original
Software, Modifications, and Extensions, regardless of whether the software is
publicly distributed or kept private:
3.1. Scope of Use: You may freely use the software for the explicit purpose of
editing and improving the Waze map. Indirect commercial benefits derived
from utilizing the improved map data are permitted. You may not use the
Original Software or its underlying logic for any purpose outside of this
specific scope (e.g., building standalone commercial routing tools, data
     scraping).
3.2. Strict Non-Commercialization: You may not extract, distribute, monetize,
or leverage the software's codebase, Modifications, or Extensions for any
direct or indirect commercial advantage. This strictly prohibits
monetizing the software through any means whatsoever, including but not
limited to: selling licenses, paywalls, subscriptions, advertising,
     sponsored links, or data selling.
3.3. No Solicitation: You may not solicit voluntary donations, tips, or
sponsorships (e.g., Patreon, "Buy Me a Coffee") within the software's
user interface, source code comments, primary distribution pages, or on
any secondary pages, documentation sites, support channels, or
promotional materials connected to the software, Modification, or
Extension. General, project-agnostic donation links located on a
developer's global user profile (e.g., a standard GitHub Sponsors button)
are permitted, provided those links are not actively solicited, directed
to, or explicitly connected to the distribution or support of this
software. The software itself must remain completely financially untethered.

4. RESTRICTIONS ON DISTRIBUTION
Unmodified Redistribution: You may not re-upload, host, or distribute exact,
unmodified copies of the Original Software on any external public platform,
directory, or repository (e.g., GreasyFork). Platform-native forks (e.g., on
GitHub) are permitted under Clause 2.3, but may not be actively distributed or
promoted as standalone releases.

Modified & Extension Distribution: You may not distribute, publish, or share
Modified versions or Extensions of the Original Software unless ALL of the
following conditions are met:
4.1. Significant Changes Required: Your Modification must contain Significant
Changes. You may not distribute slightly modified clones, partial
extractions, or cosmetic tweaks of the Original Software. Furthermore,
the inclusion of a Significant Change does not legitimize or grant
permission to bundle the Original Software with plagiarized or
     unauthorized third-party code.
4.2. AI and Automated Derivatives: Utilizing Artificial Intelligence, Large
Language Models (LLMs), or other automated tools to refactor, translate,
or modify the Original Software does not break the chain of copyright or
grant original authorship over the resulting code. Under the terms of
this license, any output generated by processing the Original Software
through such tools shall be treated as a Modification and remains fully
     bound by all restrictions herein.

5. ATTRIBUTION & ENDORSEMENT REQUIREMENTS
If you distribute a permitted Modification or Extension, you must comply with
the following:
5.1. Publication Channels: If the software is published on a public forum,
platform, or directory (e.g., Waze Discuss, GreasyFork, GitHub), the
publication description must explicitly name the Original Author (r0den
for Waze-related platforms, or David Slutsky elsewhere) and include a
direct hyperlink to the Original Software's repository.
5.2. In-Script Attribution: The script's user interface or metadata block must
retain a visible credit acknowledging the Original Author of the core
     logic.
5.3. Modification Notice & No Endorsement: You must prominently state within
the software and its distribution page that the software has been
modified from the original. You may not imply or state that the Original
Author endorses, maintains, or is in any way responsible for your
modified version or any map damages it may cause.

6. UPSTREAM CONTRIBUTIONS & COPYRIGHT ASSIGNMENT
The Original Author welcomes community contributions. By initiating a Pull
Request, pushing code to any branch on the Original Software's upstream
repository, or otherwise submitting code for inclusion in the Original
Software, you warrant that you are the original author of the submitted code
or possess the necessary legal rights to contribute it.

Furthermore, you grant the Original Author an explicit, non-revocable,
worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license (with the right to sub-
license) to use, modify, distribute, and re-license your contributed code
without limitation. You explicitly waive all "Moral Rights" to your
contributed code, acknowledging the Original Author's absolute right to edit,
alter, rewrite, copy, and distribute your contribution as deemed necessary.
You retain the economic copyright to your original lines of code, but you
cannot revoke the Original Author's right to utilize them.

7. RESERVATION OF ORIGINAL AUTHOR RIGHTS
This license dictates the terms under which third parties may use the Original
Software. As the sole copyright holder, the Original Author is not bound or
restricted by any terms of this license. The Original Author explicitly
reserves all exclusive rights to the software, including but not limited to
the right to:
7.1. Monetize, commercialize, or distribute the Original Software under
     different models.
7.2. Grant alternate, custom, or commercial licenses to any individual or
entity under any terms deemed appropriate.
7.3. Sell, transfer, or assign the copyright of the Original Software.
7.4. Alter, amend, or update the terms of this license for any future
versions, updates, or releases of the Original Software without prior
notice. (Copies already obtained under this specific license version
     remain governed by these terms).

8. NO WARRANTY & LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE
AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, ACCOUNT BANS,
MAP CORRUPTION, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR
OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE
OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

This software is a community-driven project and is not officially affiliated
with, endorsed by, or supported by Waze Mobile Ltd., Google LLC, or any of
their affiliates.

9. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION
This license and any disputes arising from the use, modification, or
distribution of the Original Software shall be governed by and construed in
accordance with the laws of the State of Israel, without regard to conflict of
law principles. Any legal action or proceeding related to this license shall
be brought exclusively in the competent courts of Jerusalem, Israel, and all
parties consent to the personal jurisdiction thereof.
