Hi, I'm Adão 👋

📍 Portugal | CTO at Powerdot

15+ years designing distributed systems, scaling platforms, and leading engineering teams. Currently building the technology foundation for large-scale EV charging infrastructure across Europe.

Philosophy

Build systems that scale before the business forces you to. Good architecture is a competitive advantage, not a cost centre.

What I'm Working On

EV Charging Infrastructure

Leading technology strategy for thousands of charging locations across Europe. OCPP and OCPI platforms covering interoperability, tariffs, roaming, and security. Real-time session management, pricing, settlement, asset telemetry, and field performance at scale.

AI Enablement

Building the connective tissue between language models and the world's APIs. The goal is simple: make integrations disappear. When an AI agent needs to talk to Slack, read your notes, query a database, or control your home, the bridge should already be there. No ceremony, no boilerplate, no manual OAuth dances. Intent to action.

The work spans MCP servers, OAuth proxies, tool bridges, and agent orchestration. Every integration follows the same principle: handle failures at the infrastructure layer so the model never sees them. If an auth token expires, refresh it silently. If a service is down, retry with backoff. The LLM at the end of the chain should never know something went wrong.

Smart Home & Self-Hosted Infrastructure

Home Assistant integrations, self-hosted services, and automation. Making the physical world scriptable.

Focus Areas

  • OCPP and OCPI platform architecture for interoperability, tariffs, roaming, and security
  • AI agent tooling: MCP servers, OAuth proxies, and integration bridges
  • Making AI integrations simple, reliable, and transparent
  • Self-hosted infrastructure and home automation
  • Scalable backend systems for real-time operations
  • Technical strategy aligned to growth and unit economics

Background

  • 15+ years as a builder, software architect, engineering manager, and technology leader
  • Advisor to early-stage teams on product strategy, architecture, and technical due diligence
  • Founded YMedia, a web agency and automated online ads service, failed hard in 2018
  • Founded Bright Technologies, acquired by Sword Health in 2021
  • Software Architect for Airchat (founded by ex-Tinder CPO - Brian Norgard and Naval Ravikant)
  • Currently leading technology strategy and delivery at Powerdot across Europe
A few more things
  • Portuguese, based in the Powerdot world
  • Believe the best technical leaders write code and understand the business in equal measure
  • Driven by the intersection of climate tech and engineering excellence
  • Approach team building the same way I approach architecture: design for growth, remove single points of failure, target long-term scalability
