ABBYY FineReader 2026 automates document conversion. It turns images, scans, and PDF files into formats you can edit, search, and share. This software identifies text within pictures and layouts with high accuracy. Use this guide to set up the software on your Windows computer.
Your computer must meet these basic standards to run the software.

Follow these steps to set up the application on your Windows machine.

FineReader handles many document types. You perform these tasks using the main interface.
Select the Scan to Word or Scan to PDF button. The program looks for connected scanners or allows you to select a saved image file from your hard drive. It detects the text during the scanning process and saves it as a document you can edit.
You open a PDF by dragging it into the workspace. The software recognizes the text blocks and images. You click on any part of the text to delete, correct, or add new words. You drag images around the page to change the layout.
The software creates a layer of searchable text on top of images. Use the find tool to search for specific words or phrases across a large batch of documents. This saves time when you work with extensive archives.
Most installation issues have simple solutions.
- Installer does not start: Right-click the file and choose Run as Administrator.
- Missing components: Ensure your Windows operating system is up to date. Run Windows Update and restart your machine before trying the installation again.
